Meet Dr Howard Cho

BDS, MBBS, MPhil, FRACDS (OMS)

Dr Howard Cho is a specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS). He is also a member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS).

Experience & Expertise

Dr Cho has worked in both public hospitals and private practice, including a Consultant role at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he continues to be involved in training the next generation of surgeons. His scope of practice includes:

  • Corrective jaw (orthognathic) surgery
  • Surgery for obstructive sleep apnoea
  • Wisdom teeth removal
  • Facial trauma management
  • Craniofacial deformity correction
  • Oral pathology treatment

Education & Training

Dr Cho completed his dental degree with distinction at The University of Otago, New Zealand and his medical degree at The University of Queensland. He grew up in New Zealand where he started his career at Waikato Hospital. There, he was exposed to a wide variety of patients presenting with craniofacial deformity, oral pathology and facial trauma which inspired him to pursue further. Dr Cho trained as an oral and maxillofacial registrar in Victoria before moving to Queensland to complete his specialist training in Townsville, Princess Alexandra and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospitals.

Following this, Dr Cho undertook a clinical fellowship at Dalhousie University, Canada, where the focus of his training was corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) and surgery for obstructive sleep apnoea. After this, he took up a Consultant role at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital whilst working in private practice and is involved in training the next generation of oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

Pursuits & Interests

Dr Cho has a keen research interest, having received a competitive scholarship and Masters degree for his research into ways to reduce discomfort following wisdom teeth removal.

Dr Cho practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery and has extensive experience in the specialty. When you see him, expect a friendly, approachable surgeon who will take time to learn about you, discuss your options and best treatment to suit your needs.  

Outside of work, Dr Cho enjoys running, cycling and spending time with his wife and children. He is also fluent in Cantonese and understands Mandarin.
