Dentoalveolar Surgery
A range of problems can occur in the mouth or jawbones that require treatment by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. This is called dentoalveolar surgery. The following are some common examples:

Removal of tooth/
teeth/roots
Some teeth are more difficult to extract and require minor surgery to remove. This involves an incision into the gums, dividing the tooth into pieces and sometimes removal of a small piece of bone. Teeth that require this treatment include fractured teeth, teeth with large fillings, previous root canal treatment, roots close to sinuses or nerves, or impacted teeth.

Removal of Cysts and Jaw Tumours
Surgical removal of abnormal growths in the jaw to prevent damage to surrounding bone and tissues.

Removal of Odontoma or Extra Teeth
Elimination of abnormal tooth growths or extra teeth that can affect alignment and oral function.

Exposure of Tooth for Orthodontic Treatment
Surgical exposure of a tooth and insertion of orthodontic devices to help it erupt into the correct position.

Removal of Bone Outgrowths and Excess Gum Tissue
Performed to allow better fitting of dentures and improve comfort and oral health.

Removal or Resection of Root Tips
A procedure to aid in root canal therapy by removing the root tip to eliminate infection or inflammation.
